Day 1

Quito:
Arrival, greeting and transfer to your hotel.

Accommodation:
Reina Isabel (4*) for 2 nights.

Quito:
Tour of northern Quito including the modern city and historic centre: Independence Plaza surrounded by the Government Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, city hall and the Cathedral. Continue to the La Compania Jesuit church, one of the most remarkable in Latin America, and the Church of San Francisco, the oldest in the city. Visit El Panecillo Hill and the Virgin of Quito statue atop it, from which you can admire wonderful views over the city. Afternoon trip to the monument marking the Equador or latitude 0 degrees, established by an expeditions in the 18th Century. The line is now marked by a monument and museum. Return to Quito for dinner at a local restaurant.

Quito - Point O of Quitsato - Otavalo Market - San Antonio De Ibarra - Otavalo:
Drive through the spectacular northern Quito countryside. Stop to Quitsato Sundial, second site of. La Mitad Del Mundo. Located exactly on the Ecuatorial line and parallel 0 Visit the colourful Otavalo Market, with its wide variety of handicrafts. In the afternoon, visit different small villages: Peguche and its beautiful sacred waterfall; Agato and Illuman, appreciated for their handicrafts, with traditional the making fabrication of musical instruments and wool-felt hats. End by San Antonio de Ibarra, small town reknowed for its handicrafts and sculptures. Continue to Yahuarcocha lagoon, located at 2190 meters over sea level, named "Lake of Blood" because of tribal battles that took place in the pre-Inca times.

Otavalo - Amazon Rainforest - Punta Ahuano:
Head east to the Amazonian plain via the Andes and observe the impressive change of scenery along the way. Continue towards Punta Ahuano. Arrive at the lodge and get ready for hiking in the Amazon Rainforest, or visit a nearby village (time permitting).

Punta Ahuano - The Amazon: Old and New - Growth Forest - Punta Ahuano:
Enjoy a full day in the Amazon Rainforest. Discover the flora and Amazon ecosystem with the help of your guide. Early-morning departure for the Misicocha region via the Napo River by canoe, for swimming or other activities (tour of Misicocha, visit to a local home, balsa excursion), depending on the group's preferences. Stop for a picnic along the way or have lunch at the lodge. Take a different route back to the lodge.

Punta Ahuano - Pujo - Pallon Del Diablo - Banos - Riobamba
Depart for Puyo and stop at a handicraft workshop specializing in balsa wood products. Follow the cascades to Pailon del Diablo Waterfall and go hiking (weather permitting). Continue towards Banos, a tiny mountain village at the foot of the 5,100- metre Tungurahua Volcano. Visit the Dominican church, taste melcocha (sugarcane-based caramel), go shopping and stop at a fruit and vegetable market. Pass Ecuador's highest volcano, the 6,310- metre Chimborazo, on the way to Riobamba.

Riobamba - Train / Rail Bus - Ingapirca Incan Ruins - Cuenca:
Catch your train from Alausi or take the rail bus in the morning. Travel through magnificient Andean landscapes and observe life in Ecuador (agriculture, farming, clothing, etc). Begin your journey in Alausi from Devil's Nose, where the train zigzags down a 1,000-metre chasm. Private transfer to Ingapirca, Ecuador's most remarkable Incan ruins, passing colourful Andean landscapes along the way. Visit the Temple of the Sun.

Cuenca - Gualaceo - Chordeleg - Cuenca:
City tour of Cuenca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This city is a magnificient display of Spanish colonial houses with charming balconies and narrow streets built on the ruins of Tomebamba, an ancient Incan city. Continue to Turi Hill for a panoramic view of Cuenca. Visit the Ecuagenera enterprise in Gualaceo, one of the most important orchid reserves in Latin America.

Cuenca - Guayaquil:
Visit a factory that produces toquilla (Panama) hats, which originated in Ecuador and are from Montecristi, a small village in the Manabi province on the Pacific coast. Depart for Guayaquil. Lunch in a typical restaurant or picnic en route. Pass through El Cajas Park surrounding La Toreadora Lake, with a 4,000 metre altitude. Travel through the Andes for your descent back to the coastal plains, and enjoy the complete change of scenery due to changing altitudes. Discover the coast and its different cultures. Arrive in Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city and most important port. Begin with the Malecon and Seminario Park, where you will see the Cathedral, Government House, Town Hall and La Rotonda Monument. Pass by Las Penas neighbourhood and cemetery.

Guayaquil:
Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
